Feel free to browse through an amalgamation of some of the things I've worked on during my studies and in my own time. You'll find a variety of things here - a curated taster of a few of my different skills; including developing, designing, researching and more. Enjoy your stay.
Here are examples of my design works, from prototypes and design case studies to graphic illustration. Most of these projects have in-depth research included, but I have chosen to separate these from the previous section as these projects showcase interactive prototypes.
Following my research results from IS01 regarding market feasibility for a concert finding application, I moved onwards to the next phase of the product development lifestyle. I developed a solution using Agile methodology over three key research and design phases. Deliverables include: The application logic, Information Architecture, Page Structure, and User Experience design. This phase shows detail behind a prospective brand identity, as well as detailed feedback from user testing and all results of iterative testing and development.
A local Real Estate company contacted me to improve their cold calling process by designing a solution to monitor and manage various "sheets" of client and apartment block information. Their current system involves a variety of Google Sheets, which has major security and efficiency concerns. Users need to gather client information on one sheet, and mark down the result of a call on another. The goal was to create an application with different user types thereby controlling the flow of data and prevent information theft, while improving the user experience and simplifying the process.
Designing digital products for children is a difficult and unmediated task. One must find suitable ways to simplify complex interactions and tasks into visual (and, depending on age demographic, para-verbal) mediums can prove challenging. In this project, my team and I evaluated several ways we could design a children's health monitoring application, taking into consideration: - Physical restraints (watch size), - Legal restraints (children's safety), - Comprehension restraints (children's understanding), and - Desired functionality (user needs).
A 2-part design case study evaluating Ovex (Pty) Ltd.'s social media presence and current web landing page. Using this information, I was tasked with creating two new landing pages (for mobile and desktop) as well as a coherent and brand compliant series of static social media advertisements. In doing so, I showcased by ability to conform to an existing brand identity and encourage a coherent and reliable brand experience. Using Ovex's brand identity, I was able to create pleasing visual designs in alignment with the brand's core messaging and matching their visual aesthetic.
During our collaboration with UX Company MakeReign, we were given a task to exercise our design and research skills. Using TotalSports, a local brand, we were asked to give the product view page a complete facelift in accordance with user feedback, design standards, and user interface principles. We redesigned both the mobile and web versions - focusing on mobile-first development. The result was a well-refined, simplified and sleek final design, prioritising product view and check-out process - thereby shifting focus on to checking-out (thereby increasing revenue) over browsing.
This includes a fun little infographic I created for (IM)PULSE summarising useful information relating to the concept application's target market. Additionally, other examples of my graphic design portfolio can be viewed here.
Below is an assortment of a few of my research projects, case studies and freelance projects I've created over the years.
I noticed a vacancy in services that provided a clean and convenient user journey for concert and music festival discovery. Using a variety of research methods I will begin to excavate possible user groups and market viability, allowing me to refine my problem statement. In doing so, the results from this document will lend itself to well-informed usability studies in later phases of the project.
The festival scene in South Africa is growing at a rapid pace, quickly becoming one of the largest attractions for tourists and locals alike. Event news is often communicated through word of mouth of over social media - Often leading to users missing out on festivals that suit their interests, as well as organisers struggling to reach wider audiences if they have poor social media presence. This phase of the project summarises both IS01 and IS02 and proposes a final suggestion to the proposed problem, with in-depth market research, user testing and iterative prototype development.
Reading books to children under six is an essential part of early childhood development. Libraries and physical bookstores are great resources for this – However, the experience of finding, selecting, and downloading the e-books can be cumbersome. Additionally, the reader applications are generally designed for older individuals reading alone. In this case study, we will address the problems prevalent in the existing methods of reading e-books to children and discuss and illustrate improvements to these methods, resulting in an improved design.
Here are some websites I've made, UML I've designed some code that I've written.
Tinder for Gymgoers. A fun little HTML/CSS website I created using borrowed brand imagery from Tinder. Created to practise using Bootstrap.
My first CV Websites I created while learning CSS and HTML, created without external stylesheets. Served as practise to master CSS and responsive dividers.
My first attempt at using Bootstrap. I aimed to create a simple front page for a fictional moving company with features, an automatic slider and a navigation bar.
A simple and informative landing page I created during freelance work for Marc Leon's conveyancer company's website.
A website I created for a branch of Lew Geffen's Sotheby's. This is an upmarket short letting website targeted at foreigners. This site was created using Wix. As the sole Web Designer and a co-marketer, I am a key player in the company's essential brand identity and internal functionality.
A collection of UML diagrams and program designs from my computer science undergraduate from a variety of different projects, illustrating my enthusiasm for well-planned solutions.
